SUWANNEE CO., Fla. – An infant is in serious condition after she was thrown from a vehicle during a Tuesday night crash in Suwannee County.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, it happened around 6 p.m. on County Road 137, 3 miles south of U.S. 90.
22-year-old Shelly Ann Arreola was driving south on County Road 137 when she failed to control her 1999 Ford Explorer. The vehicle traveled off the roadway and onto the shoulder.
Arreola attempted to correct the Explorer and overcorrected. The SUV began to travel counterclockwise. It traveled across the road and ended up traveling up a ditch embankment. The vehicle became airbourn before hitting a fence and overturning. The car came to a final resting place on its roof facing west.
A four-month-old infant was not restrained and was ejected from the vehicle. She was transported to Shands UF in Gainesville with serious injuries.
A 3-year-old boy was also in the car at the time. He received minor injuries.
Arreola is facing charges of careless driving, no drivers licence and child restraint.
