VALDOSTA, Ga. — Three former Wildcat football players are taking their talents to the next level, professional football.
Former UGA Bulldog Mlacolm Mitchell was drafted in the 4th Round by the New England Patriots.
Another Bulldog, Jay Rome, signed as an undrafted free agent with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“It’s just something I’ve always wanted to do”, says Rome. “It’s surreal right now to know the time is now. The time is here to go and do what you said you were going to do for so long. So, it’s excitement, a little bit of nervousness, and anxiousness. It’s all kinds of emotions flowing right now, but I’m just ready to get out there and get to work.”
Rome comes from an NFL family.
His father and older brother both played in the league.
Another former Wildcat will also have an opportunity to continue to the next level.
Florida International’s Mike Wakefield will attend a Washington Redskins camp.
VHS Football Coach Alan Rodemaker says it’s a proud week to be a Wildcat.
